Timely, efficient order fulfillment
Challenge:
A growing distance learning college fulfills requests from current and prospective students for print, testing, and course material. With an average of 10,000 requests monthly, managing the requests and inventory was very difficult. Some products had greater demand than others and it was important to control inventory levels to prevent over-ordering, but also be able to fulfill requests in a tight timeframe.
Solution:
Velocity utilizes an inventory management system that provides for real-time reports. These reports calculated a 3-month rolling average usage for the college's 400+ items and make it easy to determine ordering quantities. Having a variety of printing options available, Velocity is able to print the items utilizing the most cost-efficient methods. Items with low usage are printed utilizing digital on-demand equipment, and longer runs are printed using the appropriate size press/color to maximize cost efficiency. Currently, all requests are fulfilled in a 24-hour timeframe and Velocity even prints a personalized letter on the appropriate college stationary to go in each packet.
